A Fake Promise

But, just before she exited the building, the girl saw Marcy sitting on the table where the fire had started. She was swaying back and forth, her head tilted back and her laugh so crazy, it sent a chill down Luna’s spine. The creature’s legs were stuck in a silver spoon, which lay on the floor, beside the table. “She must’ve started the fire!” the girl thought, in horror. “Are you okay, Luna? How do you feel?” Nik asked, worriedly. “I’m alright, how about you?” she replied. “I’m fine.”

“Gosh, that accident was unexpected!” the boy added, “And even so, I didn’t get to finish my Ginger Gold Rush!” “Neither did I!” Luna laughed. “Well, it didn’t work out with the restaurant. Hey, how about we check out the disco next street? I heard it’s good,” the girl suggested. “Sure, we need to get rid of the shock the fire caused. Let’s go!” Nikolas exclaimed.

The pair spent the evening dancing and singing “Country Roads”, along with the music blasting at the disco.

When they were leaving, happy, but tired, Nik spoke, “Thanks for the fun, even though we had to escape from inside a burning building. And, not to forget about my pants getting wet, so I missed part of the movie, but I still think it was fun. Luna, you know… er… would you go to the ball with me?” He shrugged, amazed by his own question. Both Luna and Nikolas blushed. Then, the girl took his hand, smiled and whispered, “Yes!” The pair stood outside of the disco for a while, gazing at the stars and the full moon. After that, Luna let go of Nik’s hand and both waved goodbye.

When the girl arrived at her house, silence roamed the neighbourhood. “Marcy? Are you home? There are a few things we need to talk about!” Luna called, stepping into the living room. “Really? I wonder what it is!” her double replied out of the mirror.

“Yes, in fact, I demand you tell me what your today’s deeds are all about? And the fire?! Don’t think I didn’t see you, sitting by it and laughing! I want an explanation!”.

Marcy smiled and said, in a bittersweet voice, “Oh, Luna! I am, what I am! What else did you expect me to do, when I finally start gaining power?”

“But, Marcy, you can’t just walk around, doing such terrible things! Someone could have been injured by the fire! You can’t do that to people!”

“Ugh, fine! I won’t burn down buildings,” the reflection mumbled. “You better not!” Luna said, pointing her finger at Marcy, threateningly. The creature folded its arms and vanished.

“This is getting worse by the minute! Sooner or later, Marcy will be able to rule the world, with her power!” the girl muttered and went to bed.

A few weeks passed and Luna’s and Nik’s affection grew stronger towards each other, but so did Marcy’s power. Nikolas started spending more time together with Luna and, meanwhile, the girl’s double was planning her escape from the Mirror Dimension.
